Statement of Faith

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and the primary authority for our faith and practice.
We believe that Christians need to know and study the Old Testament and the New Testament.

GOD

We believe in one God, who created the world and all that is in it.
We believe that God is sovereign; that is, God is the ruler of the universe.
We believe that God is loving. We can experience God’s love and grace.

JESUS

We believe that Jesus was human. He lived as a man and died when he was crucified.
We believe that Jesus is divine. He is the Son of God.
We believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and that the risen Christ lives today.
We believe that Jesus is our Savior. In Christ we receive abundant life and forgiveness of sins.
We believe that Jesus is our Lord and that we are called to pattern our lives after his.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God with us.
We believe that the Holy Spirit comforts us when we are in need and convicts us when we stray from God.
We believe that the Holy Spirit awakens us to God’s will and empowers us to live obediently.

THE CHURCH

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.
We believe that the mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
We believe that the church is “the communion of saints,” a community made up of all past, present, and future disciples of Christ.
We believe that the church is called to worship God and to support those who participate in its life as they grow in faith.

Our Vision

To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

A disciple of Jesus follows Him, learns from Him, lives like Him, loves like him, and leads others to do the same.

OUR PATHWAY:

Celebrate in Worship
We come together in worship every week celebrating God’s faithfulness and love in our lives. We need teaching, encouragement, prayer, and sense of God’s presence and power in our lives that occurs when we come together as a church family.

Connect in groups
We were created to grow in our spiritual journeys with God. We grow best by sharing life and connecting with others in groups.

Change the World
God calls each of us to serve others by meeting practical needs in the world as Jesus did. We change the world as we touch one life at a time.

Our History

Cornerstone United Methodist Church began in 2003, and we are astounded to see all that God has done over the years.

We are a group of people who gather throughout the week in groups for the sake of community, and on Sundays to worship as we experience Christ together. We are committed to reaching the next generation for Christ and are passionate about having excellent children and youth ministries. We are also a community on mission to share the love of Jesus in Portsmouth, Scioto County, and the world. Cornerstone UMC is not about a program, a building, or a system.  It’s about people!!! Our desire it to help as many people as possible become fully devoted followers.
